GemPro or Market Manager users
The procedure required to copy your database and GemPro or Market Manager program is relatively straightforward but does require the correct procedure.

It is preferable that the new installation is located on the same drive letter and with the same folder name as the original installation as this makes the process simpler. The instructions below assume that the new installation will retain the same drive and folder structure.

Make a copy of your Data

1. Copy the data folder (usually named "msdata" or "gempro\data") and all contents to a suitable medium such as a zip drive or another hard drive. If you are copying data to a CD-R or CD-RW then please read the "Special Instructions for CD-ROM media" below.

2. Copy the GemPro or Market Manager program folder (usually named "MarketManager" or "GemPro") and all contents to the same disk or drive.  If you are not sure where GemPro or Market Manager is installed, click here.

Restore your data to a new drive or computer

3. Copy the Data folder from the copy you made of your original data to the new computer. Please ensure you retain the original drive and folder specification.

4. Copy the GemPro or Market Manager program folder from the copy you made of your original installation to the new computer. Please ensure you retain the original drive and folder specification.

5. Install GemPro or Market Manager in the same folder name and drive as the original installation copied in step 4. Installation must be completed by running the setup file that can be downloaded by clicking the link Download Market Manager Setup or Download GemPro Setup as required.

Instructions for installing either program are available by clicking the link Instructions for Installing Market Manager or Instructions for Installing GemPro.

6. Although it is not required immediately, you will need to contact support to re-set your System ID.

7. If your original data was copied from a zip drive or another hard drive, then this will complete the restore process. If your original data was copied from a CD-R or CD-RW then please refer to the special instructions below.

Special Instructions for CD-ROM media (not necessary for Windows XP)
Using a CD-R or CD-RW to back-up your data will result in all folders and files being set to read-only when they are copied from the CD. This will generate a "Path/File Access Error" when running GemPro or Market Manager or updating your data. To overcome this problem, please contact Support for assistance with re-setting the attributes for your files and folders, or complete the steps outlined in Resetting File Attributes.

Resetting File Attributes. (not necessary for Windows XP)

Open your DOS Prompt or Command Prompt window and, using the examples below, enter the "attrib" command substituting the location of your data folder for "c:\msdata" or "c:\gempro\data" as required.

Example 1 - where your data folder is named "msdata" and located on your Drive C.

attrib -r c:\msdata\* /s

Example 2 - where your data folder is named "gempro\data" and located on your Drive C.

attrib -r c:\gempro\data\* /s

Now enter the "attrib" command substituting the location of your GemPro or Market Manager folder for "c:\marketmanager" as required.  If you are not sure where GemPro or Market Manager is installed, click here.

Example 3 - where your GemPro or Market Manager folder is named "marketmanager" and located on your Drive C.

attrib -r c:\marketmanager\* /s
